Lowell Shyette is a
versatile, original and dynamic guitarist-singer-songwriter. Since
the early 60's he has written and performed music ranging from
country to blues and rock n' roll to jazz. Lowell started out
as a typical young "liberal" musician in the 1960's.
Growing up in the Chicago bluegrass, folk and blues scene, success
seemed near when his blues-rock band The Little Boy Blues
performed in concerts with many top groups of the era (Yardbirds,
Byrds, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Lovin' Spoonful, Simon
& Garfunkel and more). With records high on the Chicago playlists
and on Dick Clark's TV show Where the Action Is-
success would still elude him. Lowell was drafted into
the U.S Army.
Lowell served in the Army
stateside as a Communications Specialist and Assistant Gunner
with the 105th Howitzer Battalion training unit at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
Carrying on the tradition, his father was a 7 year W.W.II Army
Air Force veteran. It was these experiences and experiences into
the early 1970's that caused Lowell to re-evaluate his philosophy
and become a Reagan-style Republican. In 1994, with the controversy
about the Smithsonian's Enola Gay Exhibit, along with the paradox
of Bill Clinton standing on Omaha Beach with the brave heroes
of the Normandy Invasion, Lowell was inspired to write They
Fought For Old Glory to musically honor his father's generation
of veterans and to show gratitude for the sacrifices they made.
Lowell to this day is still a very committed Conservative and
supporter of our armed forces.
Through the middle to late
1980's Lowell took a break from performing and joined with Leo
Fender and his company G & L Musical Instruments
in Anaheim, CA. As the California and Arizona sales rep, Lowell
was privileged to test new designs in the labs with Leo and contribute
to marketing strategies of G & L products. Lowell stayed with
Mr. Fender until his death in 1991.
After years of living in California,
Nashville and Chicago, Lowell and his wife Roxana are living back
in Nashville, TN. They are back in the music business launching
their independent label CalBilly Music/Records with Lowell's
popular CD release God Bless John Wayne. This new
album has been well received along with singles Ronald Reagan,
Mr. President backed by They Fought For Old Glory,
receiving radio play on the talk show circuit including Oliver
North, Ken Hamblin, George Putnam and Jerry Hughs. Lowell's
talents were first presented nationally for AIM's 25th Anniversary
on C-span, sharing the bill with satirist Paul Shanklin.
Now, celebrating the release
of his wide-ranging CD, A FREE MAN'S MIND, there's
more great music coming from this fine Americana artist.
